Botafogo is an exceptional jazz quartet of Paris-based musicians led by the French bass player Jacques Figueras who is currently residing in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Band members include guitarist Sandro Zerafa, drummer Christophe Bras and samba percussion extraordinaire Jean Christophe Dorville.  In December 2007, Botafogo released their first CD, which has since been highly praised by the critics and audiences alike. A tribute to the great Brazilian genius Hermeto Pascoal, the album also includes songs by Pixinguinha, Jobim and originals by Sandro Zerafa.

Special guest for this Cyprus concert is none other than the outstanding Brazilian singer Catia Werneck, who is nowadays considered one of the most prominent vocalists in Paris. She will join Botafogo band members after having performed extensively in Europe, Japan and Brazil.

Botafogo will be presenting a repertoire of sambas and bossa novas including original songs and Brazilian standards by Dorival Caymmi, Chico Buarque , Joao Bosco and Milton Nascimento.

*** You can watch a short demonstration by Botafongo and Catia Werneck on 15 October 2008, at the Municipal Arts Centre in Nicosia, at 8.00 pm,  as part of the Pharos Trust’s Tenth Anniversary Celebrations.
