Message from Brazilian Ambassador to Cyprus
May I extend to you our warmest welcome to the website of the Brazilian Embassy in Cyprus. I hope it will assist Brazilian citizens in its area of jurisdiction as well as our Cypriot friends interested in discovering, visiting and doing business with Brazil.
Brazil and Cyprus traditionally have had good relations and, in the multilateral area, both countries cooperate intensively, given the ample coincidence of outlooks on matters related to the global agenda. In recent years, our bilateral relations have intensified as Brazil and Cyprus could benefit from as yet untapped opportunities in trade and investment. From US$ 65 million in 2004, and US$ 110 million in 2005, our trade has jumped to more than US$ 200 million in 2006. The prospects for this current and the next years are most encouraging, as the two countries can look forward to expanding their cooperation and trade in areas such as alternative energy sources and fuels, as well as in services and investment. May I in this connection recall the then Minister of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade, Luís Fernando Furlan' s visit to Cyprus in 2005.I wish to extend my appreciation to the Honorary Consul of Brazil in Cyprus, Mr. Garo Keheyan, and the staff of the Pharos Trust not only for their assistance to Brazilians and the support provided to Brazilian interests but also for their work and enthusiasm in promoting Brazil in Cyprus.
The Honorary Consulate in Cyprus and the Pharos Trust, with the support of the Embassy of Brazil in Cyprus, organize the Brazilian Culture Month which takes place in Nicosia every October. This Brazilian Cultural Month has undoubtedly become an important popular event on the cultural calendar in Cyprus raising the profile of Brazil and promoting greater awareness of all things Brazilian.
Cyprus has an ancient culture while Brazil's unique melting pot has created a vibrant culture of its own. I do hope that the present website will help our societies to get to know each other better and thus strengthen even further our bonds of friendship.
Cordially,
Pedro Motta Pinto Coelho
Ambassador of Brazil in Cyprus
